The 8 Most Popular Coworking Spaces in Lisbon for Digital Nomads (2024)

Lisbon has become renowned among business professionals in the last couple of years and is one of the best places to live in Portugal. Not surprisingly, people from all over the world have taken notice of what this city of pastel architecture and coastal beauty has to offer.

After a three-year test drive, Web Summit, the largest technology conference in the world, has decided to extend its annual gatherings in Lisbon for another decade. This is expected to attract around 50–80,000 visitors each year and bring revenue of about $3.5 billion to Lisbon in the following years.

Everyone’s eyes are set on Lisbon at the moment. Remote workers and digital nomads are not lagging behind either. As a result, Lisbon has a budding coworking space scene that shows no signs of slowing down.

We have our seven favorite picks and the least favorite one, too:

  1. Cowork Central
  2. Second Home Lisboa
  3. Outsite Lisbon
  4. Impact Hub
  5. Village Underground
  6. Bworking Spaces
  7. Avila Spaces
  8. Liberdade 229

Cowork Central Has the Prime Coworking Spaces in Lisbon

Cowork-Centr

Source: Cowork Central

Cowork Central has two locations in downtown Lisbon, and we couldn’t single out which one was better. One office is in Príncipe Real, and the other is in Cais do Sodré.

These coworking spaces offer everything you may need for your work — super-fast internet, a quiet environment, and a central location in the neighborhood of the best food and coffee joints. There are different membership plans designed to meet a variety of needs.

You can hop in unannounced for a couple of hours at a hotdesk, or you can book your own dedicated desk seat. If you have a larger team, you can have private offices and meeting rooms at your disposal. In case you need a space to host an event, this is where you can find one.

The founders of this hub also thought about downtime! There is a table tennis desk that you can use during your break. There is also free beer and on-site showers. In terms of other advantages, the place has bike storage and private lockers. Did we mention that it is also pet-friendly?

Second Home Lisboa Is the Most Sustainable Coworking Space in Lisbon

Second-Home

Source: Second Home Lisboa

Second Home could easily be the most charming spot on our list! All it took was one look at it, and we fell instantly in love. The place looks more like a jungle than a coworking space, and we’re obsessed with it!

This coworking space was designed with the intention of mimicking nature. It follows the principles of biophilia to promote mental well-being and to inspire, relax, and connect with its visitors. The biophilic design includes curvy desks, lots of natural light, see-through rooftops, and an abundance of natural plants all over the place! And frankly, it works! You don’t feel like you are in an office at all.

All Second Home offices (London, Lisbon, and Los Angeles) were designed to be sustainable. They never build from scratch but rather reuse old, forgotten buildings. The one in Lisbon dates back to the 19th century.

They also use green tech in all their spaces. The Lisbon office has a roof that opens up automatically every night to let the cool air inside and closes at dawn. Under the floor, there are pipes that transfer cold or hot water, depending on the season and control the indoor temperature because air conditioning is against the Second Home policy.

Second Home has an on-site cafe with fresh seasonal dishes all year round. The members are also privy to the Wellness Programme, which includes anything from meditation to surfing. This coworking space hosts Weekly Members’ Drinks and other events to build a community for its users.

What We Didn’t Like About Second Home

Apart from the prices that are slightly above the standard coworking space ones, we didn’t appreciate the lack of ergonomic chairs. It is practically impossible to work long hours from the uncomfortable, albeit gorgeous, chairs in this place.

Another disadvantage is that you cannot just show up here as you can in other places. There is a security guard here who ensures that only those who have an appointment can enter. There is also a privacy issue here—you have to get outside to make a private phone call to a client and avoid disturbing others.

Outsite Is the Most Convenient Place for Digital Nomads in Lisbon

Outsite

Source: Outsite Cowork Cafe, Cais do Sodré

Outsite Lisbon is located in a beautiful townhouse in the heart of the city. The Cais do Sodré area has numerous cafés, bars, and shops and is a minute away from the Time-Out Market.

Coliving in this space is exceptionally convenient. The harbor is only five minutes away from the accommodation, and if you are feeling extra adventurous, you can take a 15-minute ferry ride to Costa de Caparica.

There is no reception here, and prior to arrival, you need to get access codes so that you can enter the house and your room. There is a strict policy of no noise after 10 pm, which is laudable because workspaces are literally at every corner here. Every floor has a fully equipped kitchen, a laundry room, ensuite bathrooms, and stable Wi-Fi.

There is a cowork cafe with a street view where you can work or simply enjoy a cup of hot coffee. On the ground floor, there is also an enormous coworking space in the back of the bar with meeting rooms that need to be booked in advance.

Digital nomads are sure to enjoy coliving and coworking in this hub. It is usually packed with people from all walks of life and all corners of the world. There is always someone to chat with and bounce ideas off of.

Bworking Spaces Has (Almost) Everything You Could Wish for in a Coworking Spot

Working-Spaces

Source: Bworking Spaces Coworking and Offices

Bworking Spaces is a coworking hub that is ideal for startups, freelancers, and digital nomads. It also has a growing clientele of teams and private companies looking for a new place to take their work endeavors.

Among the amenities that this place provides are app-enabled 24/7 access to all members (apart from the one-off visitors), a phonebox, three meeting rooms, nine private offices, and 65 coworking desks. There is also a lounge and an outdoor terrace for quality downtime with other coworkers. The kitchen is available to all visitors and has free coffee, fruit, and tea.

What is interesting about Bworking spaces is that they offer activities not typically associated with a coworking hub, such as yoga classes, healthy eating workshops, and physiotherapy (provided by their partners Metha Consciousness).

The downside of Bworking Spaces

Although, on paper, this coworking spot has everything your heart desires in a rentable office, it doesn’t strike us as a particularly stimulating one. If your motivation is driven by the aesthetics of your surroundings, then this hub will not be up your alley. The service at Bworking may be terrific, but the white backdrop and the monotonous chipboard furniture design can throw off visual personality types.

Liberdade 229 Is Our Least Favorite Coworking Space in Lisbon

Liberdade

Source: Liberdade 229

Liberdade 229 opened in 2009 and is the first coworking space in Lisbon. It is a place that offers you peace and quiet as it is not overwhelmingly big. Unfortunately, this place may not work for everyone. There are only 34 desks on offer in total in their seven rooms, but there are a private meeting room, a shared kitchen, and a phone booth on the premises.

Liberdade 229 is situated on the second floor of a 19th-century building in the center of the city. Its location makes it equally accessible to locals and foreigners. It is also in the vicinity of the public bus transport stations and both the Yellow and Blue metro lines. If you are a bike enthusiast, there is a bike-sharing stall right at the doorstep.

Liberdade 229 is the coworking space with the longest tradition but the least flexibility. It is open 24 hours for all visitors, which is a unique feature among coworking spaces. However, they do not have hot desk seats on offer and only allow monthly memberships, which could be ascribed to their size and desk space availability. There is also a cap of three people per company. So if you are looking for a more flexible workspace or one that can accommodate a larger team, Liberdade 229 will not be suitable for you.
